The District was formed in 1944, in part, to provide for the control and conservation of flood and storm waters and for the protection of watercourses, watersheds, public highways, life and property in the district from damage or destruction from these waters.
Ventura Countywide Stormwater Quality Management Program
The Ventura Countywide Stormwater Quality Management Program protects and preserves water quality in Ventura County water bodies using proactive and innovative ideas for preservation of biodiversity, ecological viability and human health.
Matilija Dam Ecosystem Restoration Project
Federal, State, and local agencies, water districts, environmental groups, and citizens cooperatively determined that removal of Matilija Dam is key to restoring natural sediment transport and fish passage. When completed, this project will help restore the ecosystem of the Ventura River watershed.
Ventura River Ecosystem Blog
Paul Jenkin is the Environmental Director of the Ventura County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, and founder of the Matilija Coalition. Paul maintains this blog which focuses on issued surrounding the Ventura River Ecosytem.
Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency (FCGMA)
The FCGMA is charged with the preservation and management of groundwater resources within the areas or lands overlying the Fox Canyon aquifer for the common benefit of the public and all agricultural, domestic, and municipal and industrial users.
Ventura River Watershed Council
The Ventura River Watershed Council is a stakeholder group for watershed planning efforts in the Ventura River Watershed. It is an open group with active participation by a broad range of public and private entities with a common interest in protecting the Ventura River Watershed.
Watersheds Coalition of Ventura County
The coalition is a consortium of local cities, wholesale and retail water agencies, sanitation districts, the County of Ventura, and non-governmental agencies interested in promoting and implementing integrated regional water management planning efforts.
The Santa Clara River Parkway
The Santa Clara River Parkway is a project of the California State Coastal Conservancy, in collaboration with the Nature Conservancy’s LA-Ventura Project, Friends of the Santa Clara River, private landowners and local governments, to acquire and restore floodplain land along the lower Santa Clara River.
Malibu Creek Watershed Council
The Malibu Creek Watershed Council is a unique partnership of government agencies, local organizations, industry and the public, working together to restore and protect the Malibu creek watershed.
Calleguas Creek Watershed Management
This subcommittee’s responsibilities include: preparing habitat inventory, mapping species of concern, identifying habitat for restoration, exercising conservation management, and creating a recreational strategy that identifies public access to the water resource, drafting the Watershed Management Plan.

Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board
The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board (LARWQCB) protects ground and surface water quality in the Los Angeles Region, including the coastal watersheds of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, along with very small portions of Kern and Santa Barbara Counties.
